Prices and Discounts

There is nothing as complex as pricing when you are selling online, since product prices can depend on many variables. With the ERP integrated e-commerce solution, there is nothing to worry about, because all pricing and calculation logic is natively present in the ERP system.

Each ERP system contains a lot of pricing logic. As Sana Commerce Cloud is the ERP integrated e-commerce solution, it natively uses any price rules and conditions that are in your ERP system. If a product in your ERP system has a unit price, any sales prices based on different variables or any other price conditions - any changes in pricing will be naturally reflected on the sales price in the ERP system, and thus, automatically in the Sana webstore. The more complex your product pricing is in your ERP system, the more you will benefit from Sana.

NOTE

Sana Commerce Cloud does not have any influence on how prices are calculated. The default ERP logic is used. In Sana Admin you can only control which prices and discounts you want to show to your customers in your webstore.

The pricing logic in different ERP systems has a lot in common but also a lot of differences. Below you can see a basic description of the pricing logic.

When a customer creates an order in the Sana webstore, the price that will be used for a product is based on priority.

First, the system checks if there is a sales line discount and applies it to the sales price if it exists, or to the unit price, if there is no sales price. If there is no sales line discount, the system will search for a sales price. If there is no sales price that matches the criteria, the unit price will be used for a product.

If you are doing business where product prices constantly change because of some factors, for example if you are selling jewelry, and the price of a product depends on the price of the precious metals, for example gold – you will not find a better solution for your online business then the ERP integrated webstore, if you want your customers always see the correct prices. If you change a price or make any changes in the price rules and conditions in the ERP system, your customers will always see the correct prices in the webstore, based on the latest pricing logic in your ERP. The main advantage of the ERP integrated e-commerce solution on this subject is the fact that pricing calculations are always done by the ERP system based on the latest logic and shown in the webstore real-time.

In ERP systems you can also set up various discounts for products and customers. Sana Commerce Cloud has its own functionality of discounts which you can set up in Sana Admin, but if some discounts are calculated in your ERP either for products or for some customers, they will be also used in your Sana webstore.

For example, if you set up volume discounts in your ERP, they will be shown in your Sana webstore and calculated in the shopping cart. Using volume discounts, you can encourage your customers to buy larger quantities of a product by applying discounts based on the quantity ordered. Typically, the greater the number of products purchased, the greater discount.

This is not something that we created in Sana. Volume pricing is the logic that is natively present in the ERP system and we simply use it.

Sana Commerce Cloud also offers mix & match discounts. This is a feature that we implemented in our product, but its availability depends on your ERP system. The mix & match discount gives customers a discount when they purchase a specific combination of items. For example, if customers buy pants, a shirt and shoes, they will receive a 15% discount on each item.

There are also solutions that extend the discounts logic of ERP a lot, for example the LS Retail add-on for Microsoft Dynamics NAV or the version of Microsoft Dynamics AX for Retail. These products provide a lot of extra pricing and discounts logic which can be beneficial for the retail industry.

Sana Commerce Cloud supports LS Retail for Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft Dynamics AX Retail, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce and LS Central for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central out-of-the-box. So, there is no need to customize something, Sana Commerce Cloud natively supports the default discounts logic of the ERP systems as well as retail discounts.

From Sana Admin you can control visibility of different prices and discounts in your webstore, whether to show some prices and discounts or hide. But this is only for presentation purposes, while all prices are managed in a single place – your ERP system. All calculations are also done by the ERP system real-time considering all pricing rules.
