All taxes must be configured in ERP. Sana Commerce Cloud has no influence on tax calculation as it all done by ERP. In Sana you can only change presentation of taxes in the shopping cart.
One of the important questions of running any business is sales taxes. Every company collects and pays taxes to various tax authorities. The rules and rates vary for countries, states, counties, and cities, and must be updated periodically as tax authorities change their requirements.
The ERP systems are already equipped to do complex sales tax calculations. Of course, there are some differences depending on the ERP system you are using. ERP systems hold information about customers’ tax liability and calculate the correct sales tax amount for the customers.
In the Sana webstore on the product details page, a customer can clearly see whether a price is shown including sales tax or excluding.
When customers place an order, they can see either the total tax amount in the shopping cart or the detailed tax information calculated by ERP real-time.
You can change the presentation of taxes in the shopping cart. You can do this in Sana Admin at the following location: Setup > Ordering > Tax.
Every single country and even state has its own tax laws. They are so different and in some countries are so complex, like in the USA, that when people operate their online business they may contact their local authority on tax to ensure they are calculating tax properly for their webstore. That’s why all these complex rules to calculate sales taxes are available and managed in the ERP system and Sana Commerce Cloud simply presents this information.
But if the default tax logic in ERP is not enough for your business, Sana Commerce Cloud also allows you to connect with Avalara AvaTax. This is a paid tax service that is used to automate tax calculations. It determines sales tax rates at checkout automatically. Avalara AvaTax is built to run seamlessly in Microsoft Dynamics ERP systems and provides real-time sales tax calculation. If you use Avalara AvaTax for Microsoft Dynamics, then all tax calculations are done by Avalara but not ERP.
If you have Avalara AvaTax for your Microsoft Dynamics ERP system, then Sana Commerce Cloud can also integrate with it.
