Before you start upgrading Sana in Microsoft Dynamics AX, make sure that you have the correct Sana add-on for your Microsoft Dynamics AX version. This is the package with the Sana model for a specific Microsoft Dynamics AX version. Sana partners can download the Sana packages for different Microsoft Dynamics AX versions or request those that are delivered on demand on the Sana Community website.

Please note, that if you want to use the features from the latest Sana release, you should also upgrade your Sana webshop. You can find the release notes for all Sana versions on the Sana help site.

To upgrade the Sana add-on in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012:

1. Close the client sessions that are connected to the Application Object Server (AOS) instance that you are working with. For more information, see Drain users from an AOS in the Microsoft TechNet Library.

2. Check that you have the appropriate permissions to work with the model store:

• Administrative permissions on the local computer.

• System Administrator rights in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

• In Microsoft SQL Server:

  • Membership for the securityadmin Server Role on the SQL Server instance.

  • Membership for the db_owner role in the Microsoft Dynamics AX database.

3. If you did any customizations, then back up the customized objects using the Export functionality of Microsoft Dynamics AX to save your code.

4. Import the Sana model. It can be found in the AX package which corresponds to your Microsoft Dynamics AX version.

Before importing the Sana model, make sure that you are using the latest version of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012.

• If you are using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, the Cumulative Update 7 should be installed.

• If you are using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, the Cumulative Update 9 should be installed.

• If you are using Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, the Cumulative Update 13 should be installed

If for some reasons you are not able to install the latest Cumulative Update, we can deliver on demand AX utility of the latest Microsoft Dynamics AX version that can be used to install the Sana model on your environment.

You should follow the merging procedure described on the Sana help site and recheck system objects to avoid issues which might be caused by different cumulative updates.

4.1 Navigate to the Microsoft Dynamics AX management utilities directory. The default location is: %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Dynamics AX\60\ManagementUtilities. If AX management utilities are not installed, please install Microsoft Dynamics AX management utilities using AX installer.

4.2 At the command prompt run the following command:

axutil import /file:<path>sana

Replace <path> with the path where the “sana.axmodel” file is located.

Use the /verbose parameter for more information during the import procedure.

If the installation fails because of a conflict, we recommend to re-run the command, and use the /conflict:push option to push the element that has the conflict to the related update layer. You can then resolve the conflict. For more information, see How to: Resolve Conflicts After Importing a Model in the Microsoft TechNet Library.

5. Restart AOS, start the client and select the appropriate step from the checklist. If there is no other ISV solution (ISV layer), we recommend to select the step Synchronize and compile. Be aware, this can take up to 6 hours.
   

6. If you customized any objects, they should be reviewed using the Comparison tool. Only your changes should be present. Any other customizations (code from the previous version of Sana) should be removed.

7. Open the project and recompile it. If there are no errors, then the upgrade is successfully completed.
